Committees

Advisory Committee
Has oversight to support and direct the committee work to achieve the following purpose. The Volunteer Center, United Way of Hancock County has as its purpose to foster the commitment of volunteerism in Findlay and Hancock County. This purpose shall be achieved in the following manner:

  • attracting, recruiting, and assisting individuals who wish to volunteer their time and talents;

  • providing training services on volunteer programming;

  • promoting the need for volunteers within our community;

  • recognizing volunteers and volunteerism;

  • developing youth programs;

  • and, developing the financial resources to obtain the goal of increased volunteer support for non-profit organizations within Findlay and Hancock County.

BoardWalk Committee
The program's definition is to educate current and prospective board members on the responsibilities and skills necessary for effective board service, as well as to provide to the community, opportunities for training including volunteer recruitment, recognition and retention.

Communications Committee
The purpose of the committee is to provide services and support to all the programs of the Volunteer Center, working in conjunction with the United Way Communications Director. These services and support are provided through:

  • Public Relations

  • Marketing

  • Visibility efforts always carrying a consistent, positive image of the Volunteer Center and United Way, including any logo or other designation deemed necessary.

Days Of Caring ad hoc Committee
This committee designs, directs and enables the community of volunteers to participate in an annual service event for all nonprofit organizations in our community, including schools, churches and parks.

Funding Committee
The program's focus is to locate and secure funding for the Volunteer Center. This will include all but not limited to: grants, fundraisers, solicitations, contributions and campaign allocations.

Skillsbank
Skillsbank links volunteers, supplies, equipment, and other resources with nonprofit agencies in Hancock County. The linking is enabled by a computerized data base.

Volunteer Recognition Committee
The purpose of the Volunteer Recognition Committee is to promote and recognize volunteerism in Findlay and Hancock County, including volunteers from all non-profit, private, public, and commercial organizations without regard to age, gender or race.

Youth Volunteer Services Committee
The Youth Volunteer Services Committee shall be the clearinghouse to identify, promote and communicate volunteer opportunities for young people so that they may become active contributors to strengthening the community; to collaborate with other youth serving agencies to involve youth in on-going community nonprofit agency programs.

Programs

  1. Skillsbank: A referral system connecting volunteers and agencies which need them; a data base listing volunteers with their skills and interests; and, a data base listing all Hancock County non-profit agency/organization needs and requests for volunteers.
  2. Training: Boardwalk series prepares and informs individuals for service on non-profit boards of trustees.
    Volunteer Management trainings offer updated information and networking opportunities to those who manage a volunteer program.
  3. Volunteer Recognition: Encourage and enhance volunteer recognition in the community. The Volunteer Center manages the United Way Distinguished Volunteer Award and the monthly Spotlight Volunteer feature in the Courier and on Time Warner Cable; National Volunteer Month promotions around the community.
  4. Youth Volunteerism: The Youth Action Council serves as a connector between agency needs and area schools to encourage young people to experience the benefits of volunteer service. This committee, composed of representatives from all city/county high schools, public & private and home schooled, coordinates in collaboration with Hancock Leadership an annual major community-wide service project, Coats for Christmas. This committee gathers and publishes information to area schools including institutions of higher education as to service learning. The Volunteer Center connects youth to a one day youth volunteer opportunity with a community-wide annual event.
  5. Corporate Volunteerism: Coordination of the United Way Annual Day of Caring to encourage companies to allow their employees a chance to serve a non-profit agency on-site for a day. The Volunteer Center serves as a connector/community representative to employee community involvement teams to help in planning and adopting service projects/agencies.
  6. Resource Development: The Golf ad hoc Committee plans and implements the Annual Hancock County Home Builders Golf Outing to benefit the youth programs of the Volunteer Center. Other sources of revenue for the Volunteer Center include grants and donations from Kiwanis, the Kuss Corp and Hancock County Community Partnership.
